3. Hyalomma anatolicum Koch, 1844a . An Afrotropical, Oriental and Palearctic species, all of whose parasitic stages are usually found on Artiodactyla : Bovidae , but they have also been collected from Mammalia (several orders). Immature stages have been recovered from Galliformes : Phasianidae , Passeriformes : Muscicapidae , and Squamata : Lacertidae . Hyalomma anatolicum is a frequent parasite of humans.

Note: major problems have long attended the correct identification of Hyalomma anatolicum and Hyalomma excavatum , which have frequently been confused with each other and with related Hyalomma taxa. Therefore, descriptions of Hyalomma anatolicum published prior to its redescription by Apanaskevich (2003b) have been largely ignored here. There is also a vast synonymy for Hyalomma anatolicum , as compiled by Guglielmone and Nava (2014), that is excluded from the above lists, including several names in Schulze (1920) and Schulze and Schlottke (1929a) treated as synonyms of Hyalomma anatolicum in Camicas et al. (1998) and Guglielmone and Nava (2014) that are not included in Apanaskevich (2003b) and Apanaskevich and Horak (2005). With this is mind, the description of the male of Hyalomma anatolicum in Pomerantzev (1946) was selected as the first one for this species. See Apanaskevich and Horak (2005) for details concerning the difficulties involved in morphologically identifying Hyalomma anatolicum . Snow (1971) states that coxae II and III of the larva of Hyalomma anatolicum lack spurs, contrary to the findings of Singh and Dhanda (1965), Apanaskevich (2003b) and Apanaskevich and Horak (2005).
