Redescriptions

M: Lewis (1933) and Theiler et al. (1956), both under the name Rhipicephalus ayrei, Hoogstraal (1956a) , Matthysse and Colbo (1987), Walker et al. (2000)

F: Lewis (1933) and Theiler et al. (1956), both under the name Rhipicephalus ayrei, Hoogstraal (1956a) , Matthysse and Colbo (1987), Walker et al. (2000)

N: Walker et al. (2000)

L: Walker et al. (2000)

Note: the redescriptions of the male and female of Rhipicephalus compositus in Elbl and Anastos (1966c) differ in several respects from those in Walker et al. (2000) and other authors and are therefore not included in the lists above. Moreover, the Elbl and Anastos (1966c) illustration of the dorsal surface of the female basis capituli of Rhipicephalus compositus lacks porose areas. See also Rhipicephalus pseudolongus for a discussion of the difficulties involved in separating that species from related taxa, including Rhipicephalus compositus .
