An Afrotropical species whose adults are usually found on Carnivora (several families), but they have also been collected from Mammalia (several orders). Larvae and the undescribed nymph have been recovered from Macroscelidea : Macroscelididae . There are no records of Rhipicentor nuttalli causing human parasitism.

Note: Bedford (1934) described the larva of Rhipicentor nuttalli , but Theiler (1961) did not recognize it. There are some obvious morphological differences between both descriptions, but Theiler (1961) described the larva from laboratory-reared material. The description of Bedford (1934) is excluded from the above list.
