Note: Haemaphysalis pedetes was originally identified as Haemaphysalis cooleyi but later classified as Haemaphysalis numidiana , a synonym of Haemaphysalis erinacei , by Warburton (1933). However, the ticks identified by Warburton (a male and a female) were found to be a new species, Haemaphysalis pedetes , as explained in Hoogstraal (1972). See also Haemaphysalis cooleyi and Haemaphysalis spinulosa for their confusion with Haemaphysalis pedetes .
