24. Dermacentor niveus Neumann, 1897 View in CoL .
A Palearctic species whose adults are usually found on Artiodactyla (several families); larvae and nymphs are commonly recovered from Erinaceomorpha : Erinaceidae , Lagomorpha : Leporidae , and Rodentia (several families), but all parasitic stages have been collected from Erinaceidae . Adults and nymphs have been recovered from Carnivora : Canidae , and Rodentia : Muridae ; adult ticks alone have been collected from Mammalia (several orders), and from Coraciiformes : Coraciidae ; larvae and nymphs have been found on Lagomorpha : Leporidae , and Rodentia (several families), while larvae alone have been found on Passeriformes : Corvidae , Emberizidae and Muscicapidae . Dermacentor niveus is a sporadic parasite of humans.

Note: Kolonin (2009) lists Dermacentor daghestanicus as a valid species and considers Dermacentor niveus a synonym of Dermacentor marginatus , a synonymy also sustained by Estrada-Peña et al. (2017) and Zhang, G. et al. (2019), while Camicas et al. (1998) and Tekin et al. (2012) regard both Dermacentor daghestanicus and Dermacentor niveus as valid species. However, Dermacentor daghestanicus is treated as a synonym of Dermacentor niveus in Filippova (1997) , a statement considered provisionally valid in Guglielmone and Nava (2014), Guglielmone et al. (2014, 2015) and here. Filippova (1997) does not include descriptions of the larva and nymph of Dermacentor niveus published prior to the studies of Filippova et al. (1981, 1986). See also Dermacentor marginatus for a discussion of the problems attending identification of species in the Dermacentor marginatus group, to which Dermacentor niveus belongs.
