A Nearctic and Neotropical species, all of whose parasitic stages are usually found on Perissodactyla : Equidae , but they have also been collected from Mammalia (several orders), and rarely from Anura : Bufonidae , and Squamata : Boidae . Dermacentor nitens is a sporadic parasite of humans.
