33. Dermacentor reticulatus ( Fabricius, 1794) View in CoL .
A Palearctic species whose adults are usually found on Artiodactyla : Bovidae , Cervidae and Suidae , Carnivora : Canidae , and Perissodactyla : Equidae ; larvae and nymphs are commonly recovered from Erinaceomorpha : Erinaceidae , Lagomorpha : Leporidae , and Rodentia (several families). There are some odd records of adults and larvae from Squamata : Lacertidae , as well as immature stages from Anura : Ranidae , Charadriiformes : Charadriidae and Scolopacidae , and Passeriformes (several families). Dermacentor reticulatus is a frequent parasite of humans.
M: Fabricius (1794) described the male under the name Acarus reticulatus ; its current status was conferred by Koch (1844b)
F: Koch (1844a), under the name Dermacentor ferrugineus , a synonym of Dermacentor reticulatus
N: Černý (1957b), under the name Dermacentor pictus , another synonym of Dermacentor reticulatus ; see note below
L: Sénevet (1928); see note below

Note: descriptions of Dermacentor reticulatus from outside the Palearctic region or under the name Dermacentor pictus are not included in the above lists. Sénevet (1928) and Sénevet and Ripert (1964) described the larva from a colony derived from female ticks collected on cattle imported to Algeria, where this tick is not present. Filippova (1997) ignores descriptions of the nymph and larva of Dermacentor reticulatus published prior to the studies of Filippova et al. (1981) and Filippova and Panova (1985).
