A Nearctic species, all of whose parasitic stages are usually found on Mammalia (several orders); rarely adults and nymphs have been found on Galliformes : Phasianidae . Dermacentor andersoni is a very frequent parasite of humans.

Note: Dermacentor andersoni has been misidentified on several occasions and at localities around the world (Guglielmone et al. 2014, 2015, Guzmán-Cornejo et al. 2016).
