67. Amblyomma latum Koch, 1844a View in CoL .

An Afrotropical species, all of whose parasitic stages are usually found on Squamata (several families), but adult ticks alone have rarely been collected from Anura : Bufonidae , Testudines : Testudinidae , Rodentia : Hystricidae , and Soricomorpha : Soricidae ; immature stages have also been found on Rodentia : Muridae . Amblyomma latum is a very rare parasite of humans.

M: Neumann (1901) , under the name Aponomma ochraceum , a synonym of Amblyomma latum , but see note below

F: Koch (1844a, page 231, not to be confused with Hyalomma latum Koch, 1844a , page 221)

N: Howard (1908), under the name Aponomma laeve capense

L: Howard (1908), under the name Aponomma laeve capense

Note: Guglielmone and Nava (2014) followed Robinson (1926) in considering Hyalomma latum Koch, 1844a (page 221) and also in Koch (1847, pages 39 and 40, figure 14) a synonym of Amblyomma latum , but Hyalomma latum is, in fact, a synonym of Amblyomma sylvaticum , as proposed by Neumann (1901) , Bequaert (1932) and Camicas et al. (1998). Bequaert (1932) also states that the ornate Amblyomma latum nymph in Warburton (1927) corresponds to the nymph of Amblyomma sylvaticum , all named under the former genus Aponomma . Neumann (1901) allegedly described the male of Aponomma latum , but, in fact, he described the male of Amblyomma javanense , as explained in Kaufman (1972) using the former genus Aponomma to name these species.
