A Neotropical species whose adults are usually found on Perissodactyla : Tapiridae ; nymphs have been collected from Artiodactyla : Suidae and Tayassuidae , Carnivora : Canidae and Felidae , and Rodentia : Cuniculidae and Dasyproctidae ( Guglielmone & Robbins 2018, Binetruy et al. 2019). Amblyomma scalpturatum is a sporadic parasite of humans.
