Note: Voltzit and Keirans (2003) claim that Elbl and Anastos (1966a) confused the adults of Amblyomma astrion with those of Amblyomma cohaerens and do not recognize the larva and nymph of Amblyomma astrion described in Borght-Elbl (1977). These descriptions and redescriptions of Amblyomma astrion are treated here as provisionally valid, although the morphological separation of Amblyomma astrion from Amblyomma cohaerens and Amblyomma splendidum is sometimes difficult ( Hoogstraal, 1956a). In Voltzit and Keirans (2003) the text description of the hypostomal dental formula for the male and female of Amblyomma astrion differs from that shown in the accompanying figures.
