26. Amblyomma compressum ( Macalister, 1872) View in CoL .

An Afrotropical species, all of whose parasitic stages are usually found on Pholidota : Manidae ; adults and immature stages have been recovered from Rodentia : Hystricidae and Thryonomyidae ; adult ticks alone have been taken from Artiodactyla : Bovidae and Suidae , Musophagiformes : Musophagidae , and Squamata : Varanidae ; while immature stages have been found on Hyracoidea : Procaviidae , Bucerotiformes : Bucorvidae , and Galliformes : Numididae . There are no bona fide records of Amblyomma compressum causing human parasitism.

M: Macalister (1872), under the name Adenopleura compressum and given its current status in Schulze (1941a), not in Neumann (1901) , as stated in Guglielmone and Nava (2014); see note below

L: Borght-Elbl (1977), under the name Amblyomma cuneatum, Voltzit and Keirans (2003)

Note: Schulze (1941a) rehabilitated the species described by Macalister under the name Amblyomma compressum compressum and designated Amblyomma cuneatum Neumann, 1899 as its synonym. It is true that the name Amblyomma compressum was used first by Neumann (1901) , but for a taxon different from Amblyomma cuneatum , and later Neumann (1911a) treated Amblyomma compressum as a dubious name, as explained in Guglielmone et al. (2017). In Voltzit and Keirans (2003) there are disagreements between the text and figures concerning the dentition of the female and nymphal hypostome of Amblyomma compressum .
