An Afrotropical species, all of whose parasitic stages are usually found on Primates : Cheirogaleidae ; adult ticks alone have been collected from Primates : Lemuridae , and Rodentia : Muridae . There are no records of Ixodes lemuris causing human parasitism.

Note: Guglielmone et al. (2014) listed Ixodes lemuris as described in 1957, but Doss and Anastos (1977) stated that the description was published in 1958.
