A Palearctic species, all of whose parasitic stages are usually found on Carnivora : Canidae and Mustelidae ; adults and nymphs have been collected from Carnivora : Felidae . There are no records of Ixodes rugicollis causing human parasitism.

Note: Estrada-Peña et al. (2017) found no reliable characters for separating nymphs and larvae of Ixodes rugicollis from the same stages of morphologically similar species occurring in Europe and North Africa. See also Ixodes cornutus for its proposed synonymy with Ixodes rugicollis .
