Note: difficulties may be encountered when attempting to morphologically differentiate the species of the Ixodes oldi group, specifically Ixodes oldi and Ixodes vanidicus , as discussed in Morel (2003), who considered it probable that these species are synonyms. Keirans et al. (1982) defined this group as comprising eight species ( brewsterae , catherinei , corwini , macfarlanei , nchisiensis , oldi , vanidicus and zairensis ); therefore, collections of supposed Ixodes oldi should be reexamined to verify their specific status. Kolonin (2009) lists the nymph of Ixodes oldi as undescribed, but its description in Arthur (1958c) is treated as valid here.
