A Neotropical species, a female of which was collected from Caprimulgiformes: Steatornithidae , while a larva was found on Chiroptera : Phyllostomidae . Additional specimens have been collected from cave walls and bat guano ( Kohls, 1957b, González-Acuña et al. 2008). There are no records of Ixodes downsi causing human parasitism.
