An Australasian, Oriental and Palearctic species, all of whose parasitic stages are usually found on Mammalia (several orders); adult ticks alone have been recovered from Squamata : Scincidae , and Passeriformes : Timaliidae and Turdidae ; immature stages have been collected from Passeriformes : Emberizidae and Sylviidae . Ixodes granulatus is a rare parasite of humans.

Note: the alleged male of Ixodes granulatus described in Supino (1897a) and depicted in Supino (1897b) is an unfed nymph or female, as stated in Neumann (1899, 1902). Chao et al. (2009) and Lah et al. (2016) found important molecular differences within populations of Ixodes granulatus from different localities, apparently indicating that more than one species is included under this name. Records of Ixodes granulatus from the Neotropical part of Mexico are misidentifications ( Guzmán-Cornejo et al. 2007).
