TYPE LOCALITY: " Mexico." Restricted by Goodwin (1969:125) to "Sacualpan" (= Zacualpan) .
DISTRIBUTION: S Sinaloa to E Oaxaca and Veracruz ( Mexico).
STATUS: Some populations have declined, but overall "still quite abundant" ( Chapman and Ceballos, 1990).
SYNONYMS: insolitus (J. Allen, 1890) ; pacificus (Nelson, 1904); veraecrucis ( Thomas, 1890).
COMMENTS: Subgenus Sylvilagus ( Gureev, 1964:167) .
