The members of this genus are predominantly bicoloured. The genus Hydatothrips can be distinguished from other genera of Sericothripinae by the available keys ( Lima & Mound 2016a & b). Hydatothrips is characterized by the anterior margin of the metasternal plate with deep U- or V-shaped invagination.
