TYPE LOCALITY: Brazil, probably upper Amazon River .
DISTRIBUTION: Amazon to the Mamora ( Bolivia) and Orinoco river systems.
COMMENT: Includes boliviensis; see Casinos and Ocana, 1979, Saugetierk. Mitt., 27: 149-206; but also see Pilleri and Gihr, 1977, Invest. Cetacea , 8: 11 -76, who considered it a distinct species.
PROTECTED STATUS: CITES - Appendix II as Order Cetacea .
