TYPE LOCALITY: India, West Bengal, Hooghly River (Ganges River delta) near Calcutta .
DISTRIBUTION: Ganges, Bramaputra, Meghna, Karnaphuli, and Hooghly river systems ( India, Nepal and Bangladesh).
COMMENT: Formerly included minor (=indi, a junior synonym); see Van Bree, 1976, Bull. Zool. Mus. Univ. Amst., 5(17): 139-140; Pilleri and Gihr, 1971, Invest. Cetacea , 3: 13-21, and Pilleri and Gihr, 1976, 6: 105- 118.
