Genus Arbocuspis Nikulina, 2010 View in CoL
Type species Membranipora bellula Hincks, 1881
Diagnosis (Amended). Because of the presence of kenozooids in A. emanuelae n. sp. (see below), which otherwise fully corresponds with all other characters of the genus, the possible occurrence of kenozooids has to be included within the diagnosis of the genus Arbocuspis , although they have so far not been reported for any of the other species. Consequently, the amended diagnosis for the genus Arbocuspis is as follows: colony encrusting lobate multiserial; zooids pyriform with extensive, calcified, smooth gymnocyst marked by transverse folds; opesia elliptical to pear–shaped, bordered by a narrow mural rim and an inconspicuous cryptocyst; gymnocystal spines, conical and pointed, non-articulated, chitinous to moderately calcified; possible presence of marginal spines which can branch but non fuse, overarching the opesium as a shield; possible presence of kenozooids of various morphologies and location; ancestrula giant, bulge-like.
