Ectinogonia minor Olave, 1936:368 View in CoL
[ Figures 40–42 View FIGURES 37–51 ]
¿ Syntype?: “ ♀ // Coll. Olave Chile. Amer. m. // Cotipo // EX COLECCION Dr. A. Cobos // Ectinogonia buqueti ssp. minor Olave A. Cobos det 1.952 // ¿Sintipo? MNCN Tipos N° 7942 // MNCN _Ent 275881”
Current status: Ectinogonia (Ectinogonia) minor Olave, 1936 ( Bellamy, 2008) .
Comments: Olave (1936:368) described this species from three specimens collected by Rodolfo Wagenknecht in “Baños El Toro” (> 3000 m.a.s.l.). For this taxon a holotype was not designated, thus the three type specimens should be considered as syntypes.
The labels of the specimen examined here ( Fig. 40–42 View FIGURES 37–51 ) indicate that it is a “cotype” of Ectinogonia buqueti minor Olave that belongs to the Olave Collection (coll. Olave Chile.Amer. m.), but the label added during curatorial activities cataloguing the types indicate its type status with question marks (¿?) as a possible syntype .
It is not clear that this specimen belongs to the type series of E. minor because it does not bear a label that indicates the type locality established by Olave (1936:368) in the original description of E. minor (Baños El Toro) , and the identification label was added later by A. Cobos in 1952.
Despite the above, we think it is probable that it does correspond to one of the three syntypes of E. minor , since it matches its original description and bears a label that indicates that it belongs to the Olave collection. In addition, the label that identifies the specimen as "cotype" could have been originally added by Luis E. Olave since it has the same format and typography as that of the labels of other type specimens of taxa described by Luis E. Olave (i.e. Conognatha obenbergeri Olave, 1938 (MNCN-CSIC)). The current location of the type specimens of the species described by Luis E. Olave is unknown. Five entomological boxes that belonged to the research collection of Luis. E. Olave are currently deposited in the collection of Victor Manuel Diéguez M., Santiago, Chile (VMDC), but unfortunately, none contain type specimens.
The presence of this specimen in the collection of A. Cobos is explained because the collection of Luis E. Olave was communicated by him to A. Cobos ( Cobos 1954:51).
