Type Locality: Dem. Rep. Congo, Oriental, Niangara.

Vernacular Names: Dwarf Free-tailed Bat.

Synonyms: Mops (Xiphonycteris) calabarensis Hayman 1940 .

Distribution: Sierra Leone to Ethiopia and Kenya. A previous report of this species from The Gambia is in error, probably based on a specimen of brachypterus (J. Fahr, pers. comm.).

Conservation: IUCN 2003 and IUCN / SSC Action Plan (2001) – Lower Risk (lc).

Discussion: Subgenus Xiphonycteris .
