Genus: Haplotropis Saussure, 1888 View in CoL
Saussure, 1888: 122, 125. Type species: Haplotropis brunneriana Saussure, 1888 .
Humphaplotropis Xiao, Yin & Yin, 2013 (Type species: Humphaplotropis taishanensis Xiao, Yin & Yin, 2013 ) confirmed syn.
Remarks. The genus Haplotropis Saussure was reviewed by Storozhenko & Paik (2011), who studied the genus in detail and proposed some new synonyms of the genus and species. Humphaplotropis was recently established by Xiao, Yin & Yin (2013: 87) for a single new species, Humphaplotropis taishanensis Xiao, Yin & Yin, 2013 . Xiao et al. (2013) cited Storozhenko & Paik (2011), but did not discuss their results. The only stated difference of Humphaplotropis from Haplotropis is the structure of pronotum which strongly arcuate with prolonged anterior and posterior margins (Xiao et al. 2013), but the arcuated pronotum alone cannot be a generic character unless there are important differences in the male phallic complex. There are many species with similar shape of pronotum (arcuate) in one genus which have also species with straighter and lower pronotum. For instance, some species of the genus Saxetania Mistshenko such as Saxetania decumana Mistshenko, 1951 and S. scutata Mistshenko, 1951 have strongly arcuated pronotum with strongly prolonged anterior and posterior margins, some other species such as Saxetania uvarovi Mistshenko, 1951 and S. paramonovi Mistshenko, 1951 have much straighter and lower pronotum, but undoubtedly they belong to the same genus. A similar variation of pronotum can be seen in the genus Paranocarodes I. Bolívar. While P. straubei ( Fieber, 1853) has strongly arcuate pronotum, P. beieri ( Ramme, 1951) and P. brevipes Ramme, 1951 have much straighter and lower pronotum. This variation is seen even in a single species as incristata forms (see Paranocarodes fieberi Brunner ). Moreover, three additional new species of Humphaplotropis have been described very recently, all of which have pronotum clearly less raised and much straighter (Li, Cao & Yin, 2014; Zhi, Shi & Dai, 2015) as in the genus Haplotropis (compare Storozhenko & Paik 2011). I think that these are additional species of Haplotropis , but some of them should be confirmed and compared with Haplotropis brunneriana Saussure. Storozhenko et al. (2015: 182) very recently synonymized the genus Humphaplotropis , which is here confirmed.
The listed species below are given in the genus Haplotropis , two of them in new combinations because of the synonymy of their original genus, Humphaplotropis :
