Eremopeza cinerascens afghana ( Uvarov, 1940) View in CoL

( Fig. 161 View FIGURES 156 – 167 )

Material examined. AFGHANISTAN: Arbarp , 10 mls. W. of Kabul, 3000 ft, 1♂ (Holotype), 1♂ (Paratype) (leg. J.L.C. Musters); Farah-Herat , 16.5.1973, 5♂, 6♀, (leg. G. B. Popov) (det. Jago); Farah-Herat, 16.5.1973, 3♂, 1♀ (leg. G. B. Popov); nr. Kandahar, 11– 12.5.1973, 3♂ (leg. G. B. Popov) (det. Jago, 1983) (all in NHMUK).

Remarks. This subspecies is very similar to E. cinerasces aurantipes (Uvarov) , which it is distinguished from E. cinerascens aurantipes by the lemon yellow disc of hind wing (greenish-yellow in E. cinerascens aurantipes ) and the wider dark band of the hind wing (in typical forms). Both have pale light pink, pale orange or yellow hind tibia with a bluish spot at the base inside. According to Uvarov (1943: 43) it is possibly another subspecies of E. cinerascens . Bey-Bienko (1963: 266) listed it as subspecies of E. cinerascens for the first time, but Presa & Garcia (1983: 9) and Otte (1994: 144) listed it as species again. I agree with Bey-Bienko (1963) and consider it a subspecies of E. cinerascens .
