Lepidiota oblonga Brenske, 1900
Lepidiota oblonga Brenske, 1900: 622 .
Lectotype (here designated) female ( Fig. 31 View FIGURES 29–37. 29–30 ): Thursday Isl. [Thursday Island] [10.59°S, 142.22°E] leg. Dr Semon (handwritten) | Lepidiota oblonga type Brsk (handwritten) | Coll. Brenske (black bordered, typeset) | my lectotype label; in ZMB GoogleMaps .
Brenske (1900) did not define the type series, seeing an unknown number of males (vide Articles 73.1.2, 72.1.1). Britton (1978) did not include it in his revision of Australian Melolonthini , but it was listed by Houston & Weir (1992), who referred to a “ holotype ” female in ZMB but provided no discussion as to why they thought Brenske (1900) saw only one specimen. This does not constitute a valid lectotype designation (vide Article 74.5), and I designate the specimen in ZMB the lectotype.
