Type host: Ploceus cucullatus graueri Hartert ( Passeriformes : Ploceidae ) from Rwanda.
Diagnosis. Hypostome with 2 pairs of setae. Setae ve absent. Setae vi situated posterior to level of setae si. Sensillae SEc-type. Agenital and pseudanal series with 2 pairs of setae, each. Number of leg setae: coxae 2–1–1–1, trochanters 0–0–0–0, femora 6–4–3–1, genua 4–4–3–2, tibiae 5–3–3–3. In larvae, antaxial and paraxial claws of leg I short, subequal, and sharp-ended.
Hosts and distribution. Passeriformes (Ploceidae) : Euplectes hOrdeaceus (Linnaeus), E. ardens (Boddaert) and E. macrOura (Gmelin) all from Cameroon [Galim] ( Fain et al. 1977), PlOceus baglafecht stuhlmanni (Reichenow) from Rwanda [Southern Prov., Butare] ( Fain 1956a), P. cucullatus (St. Mueller) from Cameroon [Galim] ( Fain et al. 1977), Guinea [Kilisi] (Zabludovskaya 2002), Ghana and Rwanda [Northern Prov., Gakoma] (present study), P. cucullatus graueri Hartert , P. pelzelni (Hartlaub) , and P. xanthOps (Hartlaub) (= P. x. camburni) all from Rwanda (Fain 1963), P. velatus Vieillot from Zimbabwe [Kariba] (present study), P. vitellinus (Lichtenstein) from Cameroon [Yagoua], Quelea erythrOps (Hartlaub) from Guinea [Kilisi] (Zabludovskaya 2002), Q. quelea (Linnaeus) from South Africa ( Fain 1956a), Zambia [Lochinvar National Park] ( Fain 1960b), Cameroon [Waza] ( Fain et al. 1977), Burundi [Kinyinya] and Zimbabwe [Kariba] (present study), Q. q. aethiOpica (Sundevall) (= Q. q. centralis) from Rwanda ( Fain 1956b).
Turdidae : SaxicOla rubetra (Linnaeus) from Guinea [Kilisi] (Zabludovskaya 2002).
Viduidae : Vidua chalybeata (St. Mueller) from Senegal and V. chalybeata amaurOpteryx (Sharpe) from South Africa ( Fain 1963d).
Columbiformes (Columbidae) : StreptOpelia vinacea (Gmelin) from Guinea [Kilisi] (Zabludovskaya 2002).
New material examined. Five females from PlOceus cucullatus (St. Mueller) ( Passeriformes : Ploceidae ), RWANDA: Northern Prov., Gakoma, December 1954, coll. A. Fain; 2 females from same host species, GHANA: May 1973, coll. Sixl-Voight; 1 female from PlOceus velatus Vieillot (Ploceidae) , ZIMBABWE: Kariba S.R., 16 February 1964, coll. unknown; 3 females from Quelea quelea (Linnaeus) (Ploceidae) , BURUNDI: Kinyinya, 18 May 1955, coll. unknown; 1 female, 1 male and 1 larva from same host species, ZIMBABWE: Kariba S.R., 15 February 1964, coll. unknown. All specimens deposited in the RBINS.
