The house mouse louse has a cosmopolitan distribution with its host, the house mouse. This louse was not previously known from South Carolina. Lice were from mice sold from a pet store. Polyplax serrata is a vector of Eperythrozoon coccoides Schilling to M. musculus (Berkenkamp & Wescott 1988)
