Charleston Co., Charleston, 4 December 1933, ex Sciurus niger , coll. G.R. Lung, Jr.
Neohaematopinus sciurinus is a parasite of the fox squirrel, S. niger , but it can infest other Sciurus and Tamiasciurus species (Durden & Musser 1994). Kim et al. (1986) reported collections from an unlisted location in South Carolina. This louse ranges throughout the Americas (Kim & Adler 1982).
