Sarcophaga (Cornexcisia) longicornuta (Fan & Kano) View in CoL , comb. nov.
Cornexcisia longicornuta Fan & Kano, 2000: 251 View in CoL . Type locality: China, Yunnan, Xishuangbanna. Holotype ♀ (SECA) (not examined).
Distribution. Oriental: China (Yunnan).
Biology. Unknown.
Remarks. Known only from the holotype, which should be deposited in SECA according to the original description, but which was not recovered during a visit by CW to this institution. Fan & Kano (2000) described the very long postpedicel as having a remarkable excision on the anterolateral surface, just below the insertion of the arista. They used the remarkable length and the unique shape, which differentiates the species from all other species of Sarcophaga , as justification for establishing a new genus.
With Cornexcisia longicornuta described based on a single female, the possibility remains that it is conspecific with S. (C.) cygnocerca , S. (C.) suthep or another Oriental Sarcophaga known from the male sex only, and that the autapomorphic excision of the antenna is female specific. This will have to be tested through further collecting of males and females of Oriental Sarcophaga spp.
