Genus Dasypogon Meigen, 1803 View in CoL View at ENA
Dasypogon Meigen, 1803: 270 View in CoL .
Type species: Asilus diadema Fabricius, 1781 View in CoL . Designated by Latreille, 1810.
The genus Dasypogon View in CoL is defined predominantly by a large body and distinct sexual dimorphism manifested by the body and pilosity coloration. Males are more uniformly black, including smoky black wings, while females have a partially red abdomen and legs, and a more brownish coloration of the wings. The species are rather similar to each other in external morphology and can be reliably identified only using the morphology of the male terminalia. However, for species from Central Europe, the following key is useful.
