Subfamily Tibicininae Distant, 1905a View in CoL
Remarks. Species of Tibicininae are distinguished by an unfused fore wing cubitus posterior and anal vein 1, unfused bases of the hind wing radius posterior and median veins, S-shaped male opercula or opercula that possess a deeply concave lateral margin, males lack timbal covers or have a partial turned-back rim posterior to the timbal cavity, an undeveloped male pygofer distal shoulder, pygofer upper lobe is generally absent, an exceedingly long uncus, not retractable within the pygofer, claspers absent, aedeagus with a ventrobasal pocket that is restrained below the uncus by a tubular encapsulation, and leaf-like lateral lobes present on the apical theca ( Marshall et al. 2018; Sanborn et al. 2020).
The new taxon possesses these diagnostic characters with the exception that the position of the aedeagus in the specimens of the type series makes determination of the aedeagus characters unclear. The new taxon is assigned to Tibicininae based on the unfused fore wing cubitus anterior and anal vein 1, the unfused bases of the hind wing radius posterior and median veins, and the width of the distal end of the hind wing cubital cell 1 not being greater than the distal end of cubital cell 2. The new taxon possesses all the unique distinguishing characters of the Tibicininae as listed by Sanborn et al. (2020). Most importantly, the unfused hind wing radius posterior and median vein 1 is only found in the Tibicininae and Derotettiginae Moulds, 2019 (in Simon et al. 2019) but the veins are not widely divergent for the distal third of their length and the male opercula are not rounded as found in the Derotettiginae, the aedeagus is supported along the length of the uncus, and the basal lobe of the pygofer is large in the new taxon, both characters exhibited by the Tibicininae .
