Common name. Hula bream.

Diagnosis. Distinguished from M. terraesanctae by: ● 63−73 total lateral-line scales / ● 14−18, usually 16, gill rakers on lower limb of first gill arch / ● body depth 22−31 % SL. Size up to 205 mm SL.

Distribution View Figure . Israel: Lake Hula and adjacent marshes.

Habitat. Lacustrine.

Biology. Pelagic, gregarious, feeding on plankton and anflug. Spawns February–April.

Conservation status. Extinct; Lake Hula and its marshes were drained in the 1950s. Last recorded in 1975. Hula marshes were revived shortly after its extinction, but it was too late for this endemic species.
