Genus Fragariocoptes Roivainen, 1951:51
Fragariocoptes Roivainen, 1951:51 ; Farkas, 1965:8; Amrine et al., 2003:18, fig. 19.
Type species. Fragariocoptes setiger ( Nalepa, 1894) 1 ( Fig. 3 View FIGURE 3 ).
Diagnosis. Sierraphytoptines missing φ I; opisthosoma fusiform, without ridges and furrows, rear prodorsal shield margin indistinct, tubercles of sc situated almost in middle of prodorsal shield, setae sc directed up or anteromedially, tarsal solenidia ω I and II without knob.
1. In March 2014, an attempt was made to recollect F. setiger from the type locality given by A. Nalepa (1894, p. 313) between Wiener-Neustadt and Katzelsdorf, Austria. No specimens were found, most likely because the type area where this species was first collected has been drastically altered with no infested plants surviving.
Species included. Fragariocoptes ambulans Chetverikov and Sukhareva, 2009 ; F. gansuensis Wei, Chen and Luo, 2005 ; F. setiger ( Nalepa, 1894) .
Distribution and hosts. Mites of this genus have been so far recorded from Europe and China. They live on rosaceous plants of the genera Fragaria L. and Potentilla L. Fragariocoptes ambulans is vagrant while F. setiger causes leaf galls and F. gansuensis is associated with stem proliferation.
