Colon (Myloechus) hondurensis Peck, 1999 ( Fig. 9 View Figs )
Colon (Myloechus) hondurensis Peck 1999: 101 .
Colon clavatum Mannerheim 1853: 178 ; Matthews 1888: 101 (misidentification; Peck and Stephan 1996: 699).
The use of the name C. clavatum by Matthews (1888) is a misidentification. That name is now recognized as a synonym of Colon (Colon) bidentatum (C. R. Sahlberg, 1822) by Peck and Stephan (1996). Colon bidentatum is a Holarctic species distributed in central and northern Europe and in the New World from the Yukon Territory east to Nova Scotia, and south to Arkansas and Virginia (Peck and Stephan 1996).
On re-examination, the “ Biologia ” specimen was found to be a female of C. hondurensis . The label data of the Matthews specimens are: “Chiacamah, Vera Paz, Champion”. In comparison with females of C. hondurensis , it agrees in general habitus, including the antennae and apical protibial spurs ( Fig. 9 View Figs ), characters shared by both sexes.
