Differential diagnosis. Polynoncus burmeisteri is similar to P. pseudogemmifer sp. n. and P. argentinus . However, the last two species have second elytral costae with well-developed tubercles, while P. burmeisteri has just a granulate row (see Costa-Silva and Diéguez 2020, p. 270, fig. 12).

Polynoncus burmeisteri also bears some resemblance to P. gemmifer , but the absence of setae in the hypomeron easily separates it from the latter (see section above). The male genitalia of the four species are very distinctive. For details of description and differential diagnosis, see Pittino (1987, p. 380) and Costa-Silva and Diéguez (2020, p. 269), respectively.

Geographic distribution. Polynoncus burmeisteri is recorded from central Argentina, with a single record from Bolivia (one paratype without specific locality) ( Figure 19 View Figure 19 ).
