Emphytopsis flatoserrula Wei , sp. nov. (Fig. 9)
Description: Holotype: Ƥ.
Body length 11 mm. Yellow brown; a large anchor-like spot on dorsal side of head (Fig. 9b), inner side of scape, lateral side of propleuron, a small elliptical spot near lateral margin of pronotum, broad elliptical spot on prescutum, one large elongated spot connected to a small round spot on each lobe of scutum, parapsides of mesonotum and metanotum, mesopostnotum, a pair of large spots on metapostnotum, ventral 0.4 of mesepisternum, a small and triangular stripe near anterior margin of mesepimeron, a pair of large and subquadrate spots on dorsolateral sides of tergites 1–8, apical third of hind femur dorsally, apical 0.25 of hind tibia except for apical margin, and apical sheath (Fig. 9d) black; ventral side of abdomen entirely yellow brown; distance between lateral black spots on each tergite as long as or slightly narrower than breadth of a spot; apex of mandible dark reddish, apex of middle tibia, subapical part of metabasitarsus, dorsal side of pedicellus and of flagellum dark brown; body hairs silver. Wings hyaline, vein C, anterior margin and basal 0.33 of stigma pale brown, other parts of stigma and other veins blackish brown (Fig. 9a).
Body strongly shiny; clypeus sparsely punctured, head otherwise hardly punctured; mesonotum including mesoscutellum shallowly and evenly punctured; mesepisternum shallowly and very sparsely punctured, interspaces broad, elevated area finely microsculptured; abdominal tergites with very fine microsculptures, shiny.
Anterior margin of labrum triangularly protruding (cf. Fig. 6c); anterior margin of clypeus incised to 0.6× clypeus length; malar space about 0.6× diameter of lateral ocellus; POL: OOL: OCL = 15: 28: 35; postocellar area weakly elevated, 1.1× longer than broad, lateral furrows hardly curved, almost parallel; head behind eyes in dorsal view 0.65× length of eye, lateral sides distinctly curved. Antenna slender, not distinctly tapering toward apex, relative length of antennomeres about 14: 8: 32: 26: 22: 15: 13: 12: 13. Vein R+M in forewing as long as free sector of Sc, lower outer corner of cell 2Rs distinctly extended, vein 2r joining cell 2Rs slightly beyond middle. Petiole of anal cell in hind wing about 0.25× length of vein cu-a. Mesoscutellum quite flat, posterior slope shorter than anterior slope; mesepisternum indistinctly elevated; distance between cenchri 1.1× longest axis of a cenchrus. Hind basitarsus about as long as tarsomeres 2–5 together; claw with inner tooth about 0.6× length of apical tooth (Fig. 9c). Ovipositor sheath slightly longer than metabasitarsus, apical sheath slightly longer than basal plate, roundly curved in ventral margin and roundly narrowing toward apex in lateral view (Fig. 9d); sheath in dorsal view 1.5× broader than breadth of a cercus, setae on lateral sides of sheath almost straight. Lancet with about 20 serrulae, membrane between serrulae short and distinctly convex, 5th–7th serrulae and 11th–13th serrulae as in Figs. 9e, 9f, subbasal teeth small.
Male: Unknown.
Etymology: The specific epithet refers to the long and flat serrulae.
Specimen examined: Holotype, Ƥ, Takachihonomine. Mt. Kirishima, 4. V. 1969, K. Takemura leg. (NMNS).
Distribution: Japan (Kyushu).
Remarks: E. flatoserrula is somewhat similar to E. nigromaculata Takeuchi in structure of serrulae. E. flatoserrula differs from the latter in the black maculae on abdominal tergites almost equal in size and almost equally separated, the postocellar area longer than broad, the elevated area of mesepisternum microsculptured, the dorsal side of flagellum, the apex of middle tibia and subapical part of metabasitarsus dark brown, the middle serrulae of female lancet close to each other and almost flat with more than 10 smaller subbasal teeth.
