Remarks. Paramere length varies slightly even within the same population. The weak differences in paramere length in the holotypes of M. lignicolor und S. tenebrosa must be considered infraspecific variation. Comparison of paramere shape between the lectotypes of Autoserica laboriosa and Serica tenebrosa revealed that they are virtually identical. Kim & Lee (1997) treated this taxon as Maladera fusiana based on the aedeagus drawings of Murayama (1954). Based on these figures (which were very roughly done) Maladera fusiana should be considered as a synonym of M. lignicolor . The slight differences in paramere shape shown in Murayama’s (1954: 39, Fig. 49) drawings might be attributed to poor drawing technique, or perhaps he used a slightly aberrant or immature specimen (with deformed parameres) for that figure.
