Type Locality: South Africa, Cape of Good Hope.
Vernacular Names: Cape Dune Mole-rat.
Synonyms: Bathyergus africana (Lamarck 1796) ; Bathyergus intermedius Roberts 1926 ; Bathyergus maritimus (Gmelin 1788) .
Distribution: S South Africa.
Conservation: IUCN – Lower Risk (lc).
Discussion: De Graaff (1981) considered suillus monotypic. Karyptype has 2n=56 and FN=102 ( Nevo et al., 1986).
