Note. The monophyly of the family Dipluridae has been an ongoing debate for some years now ( Coyle 1995; Goloboff 1993; Bond et al. 2012), many studies showed that the family was either monophyletic or paraphyletic ( Hedin & Bond 2006; Ayoub et al. 2007; Bond et al. 2012; Wheeler et al. 2017; Hedin et al. 2018). The recent work by Opatova et al. on the phylogenetic systematics of Mygalomorphae showed that the Dipluridae family represent an assemblage of distantly related lineages that do not share a common ancestor. They presented a new delimita- tion of the family stating that the family includes three South American genera Diplura , Linothele and Harmonicon all belonging to the diplurid subfamily Diplurinae ( Raven 1985) and retain Trechona and Troglodiplura and the subfamily Masteriinae ( Masteria , Siremata and Striamea ) as Incertae sedis. Furthermore, they considered that the morphological character uniting the family (spinneret morphology) is a plastic trait that has little to no informative value for higher-level classification in mygalomorph ( Opatova et al. 2020).

The male lectotype of Diplura riveti has no lyra ( Fig. 18B View FIGURE 18 ), the only genera of the subfamily Diplurinae (sensu Raven 1985) that does not have a of lyra on the maxillae is the genus Linothele ( Raven, 1985: 75) . Therefore, one could assume that Diplura riveti belongs in Linothele . Based on the study of multiple species of Linothele from Ecuador (Dupérré et al. in prep.), and the fact that spinneret morphology is not a good morphological character at the family level, we believe that this species is not a Linothele , and even maybe not a Dipluridae at all. More specimens and females are needed to establish the right taxonomical position of the species, but the species is definitely misplaced in Diplura .
