Type Locality: Mozambique, mainland near Mocambique Isl "Africa orientalis, Quintangonha, 15° Lat. Austr." .

Distribution: S Somalia, E Kenya , E Tanzania, Malawi, Mozambique, Zimbabwe, KwaZulu-Natal ( South Africa).
Conservation: IUCN – Vulnerable.
Discussion: Kingdon (1974 b) recognized three subspecies in the northern part of the range, Viljoen (1989) recognized four in the southern part.
