Silene oreades

Although recent phylogenetic analyses showed that Silene oreades does not belong to S. saxifraga group ( Đurović et al. 2017), several authors raised the question about the relation of this species to S. saxifraga , starting with Boissier & Heldreich (in Boissier, 1849) when they described S. oreades , followed by Rochrbach (1868) and Melzheimer (in Strid 1986) who pointed out the morphological resemblance between S. oreades and S. saxifraga and considered that S. oreades should be included in very variable S. saxifraga . In the protologue Boissier & Heldreich (in Boissier 1849) cited the material collected by Heldreich on two localities (“Gheidagh Paphyliae supra Alaya et montis Stavros Pisidiae”) which Coode & Cullen (1967) cite as two syntypes without further information about collections. We found only specimen collected on Mt Geyik Daðlarý [“Gheidagh”] and designated it as lectotype.
