Diagnosis

This new species can be separated from other species of the trijunctum group by the slender uncus with median width about one-third of basal width, and the gnathos slightly narrowed mesially, dilated distally. It is similar to H. flavistictum sp. nov. superficially, but can be distinguished by the forewing without yellow dots along distal one-quarter of costal margin and termen.

Description

Adult ( Figures 4D View Figure 4 , 9D View Figure 9 ). Wingspan 11.5–15.0 mm. Head greyish-brown, frons yellowish-white to yellow. Antenna with scape dark brown on dorsal surface, pale yellow on ventral surface; flagellum alternately yellow and dark brown on dorsal surface, yellow on ventral surface. Labial palpus with second segment about twice length of diameter of eye, third segment about three-fifths length of second; first and second segments yellowish-white to yellow, tinged with dark brown on outer surface; third segment dark brown mixed with yellowish-brown, yellow apically. Thorax and tegula brown; mesothorax with a greyish-yellow hair pencil arising from anepisternum in male. Forewing broad distally, apex nearly triangular, termen truncate; ground colour yellowish-brown to greyish-brown, with scattered dark brown scales; costal margin with basal two-thirds dark brown, somewhat forming a longitudinal broad band, gradually narrowed, distal third yellow; cell with one small scale tuft at middle and two scale tufts at end, fold with a larger scale tuft at middle, all tufts black and surrounded by pale yellow or greyish-white; broad dark brown fascia terminally; fringe yellowish-brown, mixed with dark brown in basal half, greyish-brown at apex and tornus. Hindwing and fringe grey. Legs with femora and tibiae dark brown on outer surface, greyish-blue or greyish-white on inner surface; tarsi dark brown, with yellow rings.

Male genitalia

Uncus moderately slender, slightly broad at base, distinctly narrowed to thin, hooked apex, median width about one-third of basal width; about one-quarter length of valva ( Figure 13B View Figure 13 ). Gnathos strong, about two-fifths length of valva, slightly narrowed mesially, dilated distally, apex blunt; culcitula broad trapeziform, straight posteriorly. Valva with dorsal and ventral margins almost parallel, bluntly rounded apically, longer than tegumen–uncus complex; ventral free lobe digitate, narrow and short, with sparse setae distally. Vinculum with lobes roundly protruding on inner margin, distal half abruptly narrowed. Saccus broad, slightly rounded anteriorly ( Figure 16E View Figure 16 ). Aedeagus with basal half broad, distal half tapering to six-sevenths, distal seventh narrow, blunt apically. Seventh segment of abdomen with horn-shaped processes posterolaterally; eighth tergite nearly quadrate ( Figure 10M View Figure 10 ).

Female genitalia

Anterior apophyses about one-quarter length of posterior apophyses. Antrum nearly semicircular, with dense small spines ( Figure 15D View Figure 15 ). Ductus bursae slightly shorter than posterior apophyses, broad distally, ventral surface with distal two-fifths sclerotized. Corpus bursae nearly oval, inner surface densely spined except anterior one-sixth, anterior margin with a nearly semioval process at right side; accessory bursa arising near anterior margin of corpus bursae.

Distribution

China (Guizhou, Hubei) .

Etymology

The specific name is derived from the Latin angustus, meaning slender, referring to the relatively slender uncus.
