Phaenocora falciodenticulata Gilbert 1938b: 208 View in CoL –220, Figs 1–7 View FIGURE 1 ; Gilbert 1938a: 198, 201, 204, 211; Marcus 1946: 70, 72.
Known distribution: swamp near Gilbert (Albemarle County, Virginia, USA), a small flag station on the Southern Railway, in Albemarle County, Virginia ( Gilbert 1938b).
Material examined: None.
Diagnosis: Animals about 1 mm long, with pigmented eyes, brownish, similar to the strings of pigment situated on the dorsal side. Zoochlorellae sometimes present, if present giving the animals an intense green colour. Male copulatory organ of the duplex-type IB. Cirrus spines uniform, sickle-shaped with a narrow, round base. Female genital system of the UNIPUNCTATA - type. Female genital canal relatively long and can be closed off from the superior genital atrium by a conspicuous sphincter. Intestinal bursa small. Only one single pear-shaped appendage present, at the right side of the superior genital atrium. Inferior genital atrium very small.
Remark: According to Gilbert (1938b), the valvular apparatus could not satisfactorily be observed, but appeared to resemble that of P. virginiana .
