Synonym: Xestophrys platynotum (Matsumura & Shiraki, 1908)
Body Size: 39 mm (male); 36–39 mm (female).
Head: in dorsal view, almost triangular, slightly longer in midline than wide about 1:0.75, shorter than pronotum in length about 1:1.7, head slightly narrower than pronotum about 1:1.2, median length of fastigium longer than width about 1:0.7, vertex longer than fastigium about 1:0.8; compound eyes spherical, prominent; in lateral view, fastigium without ventral carina, strongly elongate, blunt at the tip, distinct ventral notch of fastigium absent, length of opening three times longer than depth, basal and apical process absent; in anterior view, lateral margins of frons parallel, slightly divergent apically; maximum width of face greater than width at level of eyes about 1:0.8.
Thorax: Pronotum without lateral carinae; in lateral view, dorsal margin straight, ventral margin slightly curved upward in the middle, height at the level of curved part two times shorter than median length, with a marked invagination at the posterior margin; in dorsal view, narrower anteriorly, slightly convergent towards head. Prosternum with a pair of spines, hind femora with spines, hind femur more than two times longer than mid femur. Tegmina cover abdomen, and in female cover ovipositor, rounded at the tip in male; male stridulatory file of the left tegminal rib characteristic with thin but wide teeth present; male mirror of the right tegmen oval with a stridulatory file.
Genitalia: Cerci broadened and flattened with apex curved inwards, basal process well developed. Tenth tergite rather concave with straight styli, not projecting beyond cerci. Ovipositor straight and thick, widening towards the apex, almost as long as hind femur.
Coloration: Body in dorsal view, dark brown. Head in dorsal view, dark brown; in lateral view, yellowish brown; without postocular stripe, in anterior view, face dark brown; area around mouthparts and mandibles dark black; clypeus and labrum concolorous, yellow. Antenna black. Pronotum in dorsal view, prozona and metazona concolorous, dark brown; in lateral view, yellowish brown. Fore and mid legs concolorous, yellowish brown with black spots. Hind leg with femora yellowish brown, femoral flange brown. Hind tibiae brown; spines brown. Tegmina transparent with brownish areas. Abdomen in dorsal view, brown.
