Dohrniphora filaris Borgmeier & Prado View in CoL
( Figs 9–10)
Dohrniphora filaris Borgmeier & Prado, 1975: 12 View in CoL , fig. 25. Holotype. ♂, BRAZIL: Pará: Utinga, Belem , xii.1966, S.J. de Oliveira (MZSP; not examined). The specimen has not yet been returned to the MZSP, so was unavailable for study.
Species recognition. Our concept of this species is based on the figure of the hind femur in Borgmeier & Prado (1975: fig. 25), which is fortunately detailed and precise. In this species, the small thin setulae at the base of the narrow process are longer, almost straight, and directed basally. In D. berezovskiyi View in CoL , the most similar species, these setulae are short, strongly curved, and directed ventrally.
Description. Body length: 2.28 mm. Head: Frons dark brown, second row of setae slightly concave. Flagellomere 1 rounded-oval, brown. Palpus of normal size, orange. Thorax: Scutum dark brown. Scutellum dark brown, with 2 pairs of setae; anterior seta three-quarters length of posterior seta. Pleuron brown. Costa 0.57 wing length. Halter yellow. Legs mostly yellow, except hind femur darker posterodorsally. Forecoxa in lateral view yellow. Foretibia with 4 dorsal setae. Foretarsomeres slender, elongate. Midcoxa dark brown. Hind coxa yellow. Hind coxal lobe yellow, rounded dorsally, with narrow ventral process, relatively small. Posterior face of hind femur with narrow, freely-ending ventral process; near base of process with three dorsobasally-pointed, nearly straight setulae; more basally with toothlike process nearly covered by dorsal fold of ventral margin; near mid-depth with five ventrally-pointed setulae ( Figs 9–10). Abdomen: Abdominal tergite 1 dark brown, tergites 2–6 dark brown. Venter of abdomen gray, with few longer setae on segment 5. Male terminalia dark brown, except cercus yellow.
Distribution. Known from two sites in the Amazon Basin.
