Species recognition. This species is easily recognized by the broad attachment of the hind femoral lobe to the ventral margin of the femur.

Description. Body length: 1.63–2.44 mm. Head: Frons dark brown, second row of setae straight. Flagellomere 1 rounded-oval, brown. Palpus of normal size, yellow. Thorax: Scutum dark brown. Scutellum dark brown, with 2 pairs of setae; anterior seta three-quarters length of posterior seta. Pleuron dark brown. Mean costal length 0.54 wing length, range 0.51–0.55. Halter brown. Legs yellowish-brown, except apical two-thirds of hind femur brown. Forecoxa in lateral view yellowish-brown. Foretibia with 4 dorsal setae. Foretarsomeres slender, elongate. Midcoxa brown. Hind coxa yellowish brown. Hind coxal lobe yellow, only slightly developed. Posterior face of hind femur with broad ventral process attached apically to ventral margin; near base of process with few ventrally-pointed, strongly curved setulae; more basally with toothlike process; near mid-depth with five ventrally-pointed setulae ( Figs 7–8). Abdomen: Abdominal tergite 1 dark brown, tergites 2–6 dark brown. Venter of abdomen gray, with few longer setae on segment 5. Male terminalia dark brown, except cercus yellow ( Fig. 330).

Distribution. Widespread from Costa Rica to Bolivia.

Derivation of specific epithet. From Latin continuus for unbroken, referring to the continuous nature of the ventral lobe with the ventral margin of the hind femur.
