Species recognition. This species is similar to D. calvaria , but differs by having the group of setulae on the posterior face of the hind femur greatly separated from the microtrichose pad (they are immediately adjacent to the pad in the illustration of D. calvaria ) and the presence of a small ventral lobe (apparently absent in D. calvaria ).

Description. Body length: 1.99–2.38 mm. Head: Frons dark brown, second row of setae slightly concave. Flagellomere 1 rounded-oval, brown. Palpus of normal size, orange. Thorax: Scutum dark brown. Scutellum dark brown, with 2 pairs of setae; anterior seta one-third length of posterior seta. Pleuron brown. Mean costal length 0.59 wing length, range 0.58–0.6. Halter light brown. Legs mostly yellow. Forecoxa in lateral view yellow. Foretibia with 3 dorsal setae (rarely 2 or 4). Foretarsomeres slender, elongate. Midcoxa dark brown. Hind coxa brown. Hind coxal lobe brown, only slightly developed. Posterior face of hind femur with short, rounded lobe and group of five straight, dorsobasally-pointed setulae well separated from microtrichose area near base ( Figs 3–4). Abdomen: Abdominal tergite 1 dark brown, tergites 2–6 dark brown. Venter of abdomen gray, with sparse setae. Male terminalia dark brown, except cercus yellow.

Distribution. Known from a single site in Rondonia, Brazil.

Derivation of specific epithet. Named for the similarity of this species to D. calvaria .

Holotype. ♂, BRAZIL: Rondonia: 62 km SE Ariquemes , 5–16.xi.1996, W.J. Hanson [ LACM ENT 268296 About LACM ] ( MZSP).

Paratypes. BRAZIL: Rondonia: 62 km SE Ariquemes , 1♂, 15–22.iii.1991, 1♂, 8–20.xi.1994, 5♂, 7– 18.xi.1995, 1♂, 5–16.xi.1996, W.J. Hanson ( EMUS, LACM) .
