Species recognition. This species is similar to D. bugenitalis , but the pattern of peglike setae on the hind femur is of two parallel lines.
Description. Body length: 1.69–1.78 mm. Head: Frons brown, ocellar triangle darker, second row of setae slightly concave. Flagellomere 1 rounded-oval, light brown. Palpus of normal size, light brown. Thorax: Scutum light brown. Scutellum light brown, with 2 pairs of setae; anterior seta one-half length of posterior seta. Pleuron with anepisternum and proepisternum brown, rest of pleuron light brown. Mean costal length 0.54 wing length, range 0.52–0.55. Halter light brown. Legs yellowish-brown. Forecoxa in lateral view yellowish-brown. Foretibia with 4 dorsal setae. Foretarsomeres 1–4 enlarged, flattened ( Fig. 327). Midcoxa light brown. Hind coxa yellowish-brown. Hind coxal lobe light brown, round, elongate. Posterior face of hind femur with well-spaced, relatively long peglike setae in single ventral row and well-separated, more dorsal single to double row ( Figs 49–50). Abdomen: Abdominal tergite 1 brown, tergites 2–6 with tergites 2–5 light brown anteriorly and medially, brown posterolaterally; tergite 6 mostly light brown, except brown on posterior one-fifth. Venter of abdomen whitish-yellow, bare. Male terminalia brown, cercus yellow, greatly enlarged ( Fig. 320).
Distribution. Central America.
Derivation of specific epithet. From Latin words for large and “private part” (obscenum), referring to the enlarged male genitalia.
